Climate change and environmental consciousness
Speaker: Konstantina Lymperiadou, guest researcher at VOLT/KU
Title: Environmental education, a pilar to environmental awareness
Summary:
In this era of globalization and climate change, particular importance is given to developing individual responsibility for protecting the environment. In recent years, environmental education courses have been developed in Greece at all levels of education. We conducted a survey, among 208 residents in the region of Western Thessaly, to understand the culture of environm…

The Secret Life of Moss: Tiny Plants with Big Consequences
Yunyao Ma
(Research associate)
Speaker: Yunyao Ma, MSCA postdoctoral fellow at VOLT/KU
Title: The Secret Life of Moss: Tiny Plants with Big Consequences
Summary:
Mosses grow quietly on rocks, soil, tree trunks and rooftops, and are often seen simply as a green carpet under our feet. But these tiny plants do far more than decorate forests and stones. Some mosses team up with microscopic partners called cyanobacteria, which can take nitrogen from the air and turn it into natural fertilizer for ecosystems. This hidden partnership helps life grow in cold, dry and nutrient-poor places. But as the world becomes warmer and drier, this important function may be at risk. In my talk, I will take you into the miniature world of mosses to show how this partnership works, why it matters, and how computer models can help us understand the global importance of these overlooked plants in a changing world.

(Research associate)
Speaker: Cecilia Costas Selas, MSCA postdoctoral fellow at VOLT/KU
Title: What connection could there be between seafood and clouds?
Summary:
Without realizing it, our daily lives are directly or indirectly connected to tiny organism called phytoplankton. These fascinating creatures live in the oceans and seas all around the world. Thanks to them, we breathe, enjoy delicious food like seafood on our plates, and even experience that unmistakable smell of the sea. Beyond this, phytoplankton play a crucial role in the climate . So let’s talk more about phytoplankton!
